Two additional inmates at Hawai‘i Community Correctional Center have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections among prisoners to six.
Two of the three housing units remain in quarantine. HCCC continues to enact its pandemic protocol to suspend all inmate movement going out of the facility as a precaution. The facility health care staff and Department of Health are conducting contact tracing and coordinating voluntary testing for inmates and staff.
The State Public Safety Department reported positive cases on Monday, May 24, when two recently admitted inmates to HCCC tested positive for the virus. On Tuesday, May 25, three additional inmates tested positive.
On Wednesday, PSD announced four inmates were tested for COVID-19 with two testing positive and two testing negative. One positive inmate was released for a full sentence served and is being assisted by the DOH with quarantine housing.

COVID-19 testing is continuously being conducted statewide at all facilities. The inmate test results received at other facilities are as follows:
O‘ahu Community Correctional Center – 33 negative inmate test results
Maui Community Correctional Center – one negative inmate test results
Waiawa Correctional Facility – one negative inmate test result
Thirteen of the remaining 15 active positive adult corrections officer recruits assigned to the Training and Staff Development (TSD) section have recovered and been medically cleared by DOH to return to class. There are two active positive recruits still in quarantine. One remains hospitalized. All of the recruits who previously tested negative returned to class last week and this week. Of the 40 in the class, four completed the final four days of training and moved on to their facilities. Sixteen will complete their training today and 18 are expected to finish their final four days of class on Friday, May 28.
