1 Person Dead After 2-Car Crash by Miloli‘i

One person is dead after a two-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 11 by Miloli‘i Saturday afternoon, May 15.

At approximately 3:47 p.m., Hawai‘i Fire Department received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Highway 11 by mile marker 88. Hawai‘i Police Department sent out a push alert at 4:25 p.m. indicating the road was closed.

When emergency responders arrived on scene, crews observed a rollover between two trucks — one of which had five occupants that self-extricated. the other vehicle had two occupants — the female passenger, extricated with the help of bystanders, was on the side of the road with serious injuries. The driver was pinned in the driver’s seat with no signs of life.

Medics transported two patients to Kona Community Hospital. Hawai‘i Police officers remain on scene to conduct an investigation. The highway reopened at approximately 9 p.m.
