Hawaii to Receive $14 Million to Help Families with Rent
U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) today announced that the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will allocate an additional $13.9 million under the American Rescue Plan to help prevent evictions and provide relief for Hawai‘i renters impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“For renters who have lost jobs or had hours cut, this additional federal money will help them stay in their homes and pay for utility bills,” said Senator Schatz, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “While we keep working to bring back more federal relief, this new funding will be a big help.”
The $13.9 million in new funding includes:
• County of Hawai‘i – $1.8 million
• City and County of Honolulu – $12 million
The new American Rescue plan funding is being allocated through the Emergency Rental Assistance program, which makes funding available to assist households that are unable to pay rent or utilities.
