COVID-19 Numbers Recede Noticeably For First Time in More Than Two Weeks

The Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 61 new cases of coronavirus Tuesday, raising the statewide total to 30,287. No new COVID-related deaths were reported.

Two new cases of the virus were identified on the Big Island Tuesday. A total of 66 cases have been reported in the greater Hilo area over the last two weeks, while at least 39 have been identified in the Kailua-Kona area during that same time period, according to a DOH map that tracks cases by district across all islands.

The state’s two-week average is 95 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 1.8%.

A total of 2,020 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 467 people have died.

To date, 681,928 vaccine shots have been administered statewide.
