No tsunami is expected after a magnitude 4.3 earthquake rattled the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa this morning, April 3.
The quake struck at 11:15 a.m. three miles northwest of Pāhala. The U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) has reported a swarm of earthquakes beneath the northwest flank of Mauna Loa, that began March 29.
While no tsunami is expected, officials say some areas may experience shaking.
Mauna Loa is not erupting and other monitoring data streams currently show no signs of increased activity within the past day.
