COVID Vaccine Available to 16 and Older Countywide

With the support of the Department of Health, Hawai‘i County is now open to vaccinating everyone 16 years of age and older.

Both Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital (QNHCH) and Hilo Medical Center have announced they will begin scheduling vaccinations for teens. Today, April 3, more than 5,000 people, ages 16 to 70 have signed up to be inoculated at HMC’s third mass vaccination event.

HMC spokeswoman Elena Cabatu said this will be the most people they’ve scheduled for the Pfizer vaccine out of the three Saturday events held at Edith Kanaka‘ole Stadium.

“It’s mindblowing,” Cabatu said of the number of people signed up. “The teens and parents are just over the moon to get their protection.”

(QNHCH) will begin scheduling vaccinations for those 16 and older starting Monday, April 5.

QNHCH offers the Pfizer vaccine; vaccinations are by appointment only. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
