Big Island Records 8 New COVID Cases Thursday
The Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 114 new cases of coronavirus Thursday, raising the statewide total to 29,794. Zero new COVID-related deaths were reported.
Thursday is the seventh day in the last eight days that Hawai‘i has registered at least 100 new cases. The state’s two-week average is 98 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 1.9%.
Eight new cases were identified on the Big Island Thursday, per DOH statistics.
According to a DOH map, which tracks cases of the virus by district across all islands, at least 61 new cases have been identified in the greater Hilo area over the previous two weeks, while at least 22 have been reported in the Kailua-Kona area. Other districts are also reporting cases, though generally fewer than 10 over the previous two-week period.

A total of 1,997 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 463 people have died.
DOH reported that 634,442 doses of the vaccine had been administered across all islands as of Thursday.
