Big Island Reports 16 New Cases of COVID-19 Wednesday

The Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 100 new cases of coronavirus Wednesday, raising the statewide total to 29,681. One new COVID-related death was reported.

Wednesday is the sixth day in the last week that Hawai‘i has registered at least 100 new cases. The state’s two-week average is 99 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 1.9%.

Sixteen new cases were identified on the Big Island Wednesday, per DOH statistics.

According to a DOH map, which tracks cases of the virus by district across all islands, at least 52 new cases have been identified in the Hilo area over the previous two weeks, while at least 24 have been reported in the Kailua-Kona area. Other districts are also reporting cases, though generally fewer than 10 over the previous two-week period.

A total of 1,989 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 463 people have died.

DOH reported that 623,445 doses of the vaccine had been administered across all islands as of Wednesday.
