The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the flood advisory for Hawai‘i County until 4:30 p.m.

At 1:15 p.m., radar indicated spotty moderate to heavy showers across the entire Big Island, with showers moving toward the northeast at 10 to 15 mph. Additional showers will move onshore along the Kona coast, while other showers will develop along the windward slopes through the afternoon.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 4:30 p.m. if flooding persists.

Residents are advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
