Did You Feel It? Quake Rattles Near Kīlauea Volcano

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake was reported in the vicinity of Kīlauea’s Kaoiki Faultline, officials reported this afternoon, March 10.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported the earthquake at approximately 2:22 p.m. It was not large enough to cause a tsunami. There is no tsunami threat for the Big Island.

The US Geological Survey registered the quake as magnitude 4.2 with its epicenter approximately 10.5 miles north-northeast of Pāhala.

As in all earthquakes, officials advise the public to be aware of the possibility of after-shocks. If the earthquake was strongly felt in your area, precautionary checks should be made for any damages; especially to utility connections of gas, water and electricity.
