1:11 PM HST Friday, Feb. 26, 2021: National Weather Service in Honolulu
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for Hawai‘i County until 4:15 p.m.
At 1:11 p.m., radar indicated nearly stationary heavy rain over the lower Kona slopes, affecting the area from Holualoa to Keahole Point. Rain was falling at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour, with additional heavy showers expected to develop over the slopes through the afternoon.
Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Kealakekua, Kainaliu, Honaunau, Honalo, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Holualoa, and Kalaoa.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
This advisory may need to be extended beyond 4:15 p.m. if flooding persists.
