The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is welcoming Jana Light as its new senior associate director of philanthropy. In her new role, Light will lead philanthropy efforts for TNC’s Palmyra Program.
Light previously held a position as senior associate director of philanthropy at the University of Hawai‘i Foundation for the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR), School of Ocean, Earth, Science and Technology (SOEST) and the Shidler College of Business.
“We are excited Jana is joining the Conservancy,” said Lori Admiral, TNC director of philanthropy. “She brings outstanding fundraising and relationship-building skills and a ‘culture of philanthropy’ mindset to our team.”
Light said her work with UH Foundation fueled her interest in science and an understanding of the connection between human well-being and the environment.

“I am fascinated by and committed to doing what I can to advance the well-being of all humans, and I think climate change is the biggest threat facing our (and all) species,” Light said. “I’m excited to join a nonprofit organization focused on the environment and that finds its work and solutions through a two-prong, blended focus on people and science.”
Light formerly worked as a researcher, editor and writer in the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Washington State University. She holds a Bachelor’s in english language and literature from Willamette University and a Master’s from Boise State University, also in english literature.
