Volcano Art Center to Host Poetry Reading

Volcano Art Center will host an evening of poetry on Thursday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. at its Ni‘aulani Campus in Volcano Village.

Authors Joseph Harrington and Susan M. Schultz will read excerpts from their books. Harrington will read from Of Some Sky, new ghost pieces, and Things Come On. The latter is a mixed-genre work intertwining the Watergate scandal and his mother’s experience with cancer. Schultz will reader from her book The Viewpoint is Presumption—a collection of edited Trump tweets—and from her forthcoming book I Want to Write an Honest Sentence.

Harrington is the also the author of Goodnight Whoever’s Listening. His creative work has appeared in BAX: Best American Experimental Writing 2016, The Rumpus, Hotel America, Tupelo Quarterly, and elsewhere. He teaches at the University of Kansas (Lawrence).

Schultz is a professor of English at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and has lived in Hawai‘i since 1990. She is the author of many books and chapbooks of poetry and poetic prose. She has also authored a book of literary criticism and edited two others. She founded Tinfish Press in 1995, which publishes experimental poetry from the Pacific region.

This reading is part of a monthly Thursday night series at the Volcano Art Center focusing on art, Hawaiian culture and the environment. This presentation is free, but a $5 donation is appreciated.
