Volcano Art Center to Host Christmas Jazz Concert

The Jazz in the Forest live music series will return to Volcano Art Center for a special Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 5:30 p.m. Singer Jeannine Guillory will join Jean Pierre Thoma and the Jazztones to perform Christmas favorites and original tunes.

Guillory is an acclaimed Hawai‘i vocalist with experience in jazz, reggae, pop and rhythm and blues. With a strong and versatile voice, she has performed at venues throughout Europe, South America and the U.S. Some of her live performances have included the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the Big Island Jazz Festival. She is a former vocalist with the internationally known reggae and jazz group Groundation.

Jean Pierre Thoma is a well-traveled professional musician versed with the flute, saxophone clarinet and piano. He has toured throughout America, France, Japan, India and Israel. Thoma holds two master’s degrees in music and has been a public school teacher as well as a member of numerous jazz and classical ensembles, including the Maui and Marin Symphonies. He now lives in Hilo and works as a music teacher The Pacific Academy of Music and Kukuau Studio.

The show will be held at VAC’s Ni‘aulani Campus at 19-4074 Old Volcano Road. Tickets are on sale  for $25 general admission or $20 for VAC members. Beer, wine and pūpū will be available for purchase. Tickets may be purchased online at www.volcanoartcenter.org, at VAC’s administrative office in Volcano Village weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or at VAC Gallery in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. The last day to purchase online tickets is Friday, Dec. 7. After that, tickets will be sold exclusively at VAC Gallery and at the door if seats remain. Online tickets will be held at will call on the day of the show.
