Henry Kapono and Keola Beamer to Perform at Kahilu Theatre
Kahilu Theatre will present an evening of music and talk-story with Hawaiian music legends Henry Kapono and Keola Beamer in the second installment of Kapono’s “Artist 2 Artist” series on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 7 pm.
Kapono is hosting three duo concerts in the series featuring a different guest artist each night. Beamer will perform as part of the second installment. Each artist will reflect on their lifetime careers, play music and share the stories behind their songs.
Kapono is a Grammy nominated musician who has been at the forefront of contemporary Hawaiian music throughout his career. He became popular in the 1970’s with Cecilio & Kapono and has won 14 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards including Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, Album of the Year and Rock Album of the Year. The “Artist 2 Artist” concert series is Kaponoʻs latest effort to break new ground in musical collaborations.
Beamer is a world-renowned musician, singer and songwriter who was among the first guitarists to use Hawaiian slack key techniques in contemporary music. He is also well-versed in jazz and classical music, and wrote the first instruction manual for Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar published in 1972. He has been the recipient of the Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts Lifetime Achievement Award as well as multiple Nā Hōkū Na Hanohano Awards and several Grammy Award nominations.
