The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for the Island of Hawai‘i until 3:45 p.m.

At 12:28 p.m., radar and rain gages showed moderate to heavy rainfall from the Hāmākua District to the Ka‘ū District. Rain rates were 1 to 2 inches per hour. The USGS gages on Honoli‘i Stream and Wailuku River have been showing decreasing water levels but flooding impacts continue to affect many areas. Highway 19 remains closed in multiple locations north of Hilo, and Akoni Pule Highway
remains closed at mile marker 25. Additional rain bands will continue to move over the Big Island from the south.
AVOID UNNECESSARY TRAVEL DUE TO ONGOING FLOOD IMPACTS
Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Hilo, Pa‘auilo, Waipio Valley, Haw‘i, Pepe‘ekeo, Kea‘au, Honoka‘a, O‘okala, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Mountain View and Pāhoa.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads, and low lying areas. Move to higher ground now.
Do not cross fast flowing water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
