New Platform Created for Those ‘Who Live Aloha in Civic Life’

Civic Square, a Hawai‘i nonprofit, announced that its CivicSquare808 online platforms are live as of Aug. 10, 2018, and available for review and participation.

Civic Square is based on the Civic Square Manifesto that calls Civic Square “a sacred civic space in the public square for people who live Aloha in civic life.”

“Civic Square is a safe space for people to share their civic aspirations and collaborate to bring about the changes they want,” Civic Square President Tambry Young said.

Civic Square is a community of civic-minded people who practice a community ethic of living aloha, as defined in Hawai‘i Revised Statutes, section 5-7.5.

Civic Square’s main strategy is “walking the talk” of bottom-up self-empowerment.

Civic Square is a learning community interested in building community practices that express civic values and norms, global and community narratives that trend, and in-person and online practices with viral potential.

Civic Square seeks to have the civic spirit and our connection to the whole become a sacred matter in public life.

The Civic Square narrative will be shared at in-person gatherings, and online in a network of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Vimeo and others.

Les Ihara Jr., Civic Square board chair and founder, said, “Civic Square is a project for the civic leader in each of us. The part of us that cares for the whole and will act on its behalf.”

Civic Square was created in May 2018 by Ihara, in partnership with Russell Ruderman.
