Swell Summary
Outlook through Wednesday August 15: The small north and south swells are expected to hold today, then steadily lower through the second half of the week. A short-period southerly swell associated with Hurricane Hector as it passes to the south will fill in Thursday through Friday. A long-period south swell is expected Friday into the weekend. A mix of small long-period easterly swell and trade wind energy will keep the surf up along east facing shores through the weekend. Although confidence is low, a small long- period northwest swell will be possible by Wednesday of next week.
Surf heights are forecast heights of the face, or front, of waves. The surf forecast is based on the significant wave height, the average height of the one third largest waves, at the locations of the largest breakers. Some waves may be more than twice as high as the significant wave height. Expect to encounter rip currents in or near any surf zone.
North East

Surf: Well overhead high ESE ground swell in the morning with occasional double overhead high sets. This drops into the 1-3′ overhead range for the afternoon.
Conditions: Light sideshore texture in the morning with SSE winds 5-10mph. Sideshore texture/chop conditions for the afternoon with the winds shifting SE 10-15mph.
North West

Surf: Knee high N ground swell with occasional thigh high sets.
Conditions: Semi glassy in the morning with SW winds less than 5mph. Sideshore texture/chop conditions for the afternoon as the winds increase to 10-15mph.
West

Surf: Knee high S ground swell with occasional waist high sets.
Conditions: Clean in the morning with NE winds less than 5mph. Bumpy/semi bumpy conditions for the afternoon with the winds shifting SSW 5-10mph.
South East

Surf: Well overhead to double overhead high ESE medium period swell for the morning. This fades in the afternoon with sets up to well overhead high.
Conditions: Clean in the morning with NNW winds 15-20mph. Fairly clean conditions for the afternoon with the winds shifting NNE 5-10mph.
