Hawai‘i Police Department’s South Hilo Community Police responded to two burglaries, four vehicle theft and four vehicle break-ins over the seven-day period from Friday through Thursday, July 27 to Aug. 2, 2018.
One vehicle was recovered on Mamo Street.

2 BURGLARIES
On July 27 at 4:47 am, M-69, reported that unknown suspect(s) operating a stolen GMC van bearing plates 488HDV (stolen from Lihiwai Street a short time earlier), reversed the van through the entrance of a business on Mamo St. Suspect(s) then removed approximately 1000 pieces of misc. gold jewelry from the display case. Suspect(s) then ran to the parking lot of Mamo St. and Keawe St., fleeing the area in a white extra cab truck.
On July 28 between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., unknown suspect(s) removed a louver from a window of a residence to gain entry into the residence located on Anela Street. Unknown suspect(s) removed four Daiwa brand fishing reels that were located on a counter.

4 MOTOR VEHICLE THEFTS
On July 27 between 4 a.m. and 4:47 am, unknown suspect(s) stole a GMC van bearing plates 488HDV fronting a business on Lihiwai Street The driver side door was left unlocked, and the ignition key was left in the visor. The unknown suspect(s) used the van to reverse into the business on Mamo Street Van recovered on Mamo Street.
Between July 27 at 5:50 p.m. and July 29 at 12 p.m., unknown suspect(s) removed a silver 2002 Toyota Tacoma extra-cab pickup truck, plates JWT871 from a parking lot located near the 200 block on Kawili Street without permission. Truck not located.
Between July 29 at 11 p.m. and July 30 at 7:40 a.m., unknown suspect(s) removed a blue 2005 Honda Accord coupe 2dsd bearing license plates HJE493 without permission from a parking lot near the 100 block on W. Kawili Street Vehicle not located.
On July 30 at 8:45 p.m., unknown suspect(s) removed a gray 2010 Toyota Tacoma 4-door pickup truck bearing vin: 3TMJU4GN7AM105442 from a business located near the 1000 block on Kilauea Avenue. The vehicle has no front license plate, no tail gate, a “10” sticker on the driver’s side windshield and an “affordable” and “easy turns” sticker on the passenger side windshield. Truck not located.
4 VEHICLE BREAK-INS
On July 27 at approximately 10 p.m., a female party observed an unknown male in her 1986 Toyota pickup truck in the parking lot of her apartment complex located near the 1900 block on Kalanianaole Street. The driver side door was damaged to gain entry. The suspect fled the area in a black colored Toyota pickup truck.
On July 28 between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., unknown suspect(s) broke a front passenger’s window to a 2012 Lexus 4-door sedan while it was parked on Keokea Loop. Removed was a purple Dooney and Burke purse with contents.
On July 29 between 11:35 p.m. and 11:44 p.m., unknown suspect(s) broke the passenger side cab window to a 1993 Toyota truck to gain entry, while the truck wasparked at a business shop located on Holomua Street. Removed was a 12” JL subwooferand a 3000 watt Planet Audio amplifier.
Between July 31 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 1 at 4:30 a.m., a female party observed a male suspect removing tires and rims from a Toyota 4Runner parked near the 1600 block on Kamehameha Avenue. The reporting party called for police assistance after observing this. Upon officers arrival, the female party said that the suspect had left the area in a dark colored Toyota truck (unknown plates). Checks conducted by officersrevealed that a 2013 Toyota 4Runner at that location had it’s front passenger win-dow broken to gain entry. The tire jack and tire removal equipment were missing. That morning officers located a M-25, with a truck matching the suspect vehicles description. M-25 was advised of his rights relative to the investigation.
