HFD Rescues Cliff Jumper
The Hawai‘i County Fire Department (HFD) rescued a swimmer that was in distress after jumping from a cliff top at South Point in the area known as “Ladders” on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, in Ka‘ū at South Point Landing.
HFD received the first alarm at 11:42 a.m. and the first unit on the scene was there at 12:12 p.m.
Upon arrival, HFD personnel climbed down the rocks to assess and treat the patient while waiting for Fire Department Helicopter One. Responders found a female in her 30’s in the care of bystanders laying on a rock shelf with no feelings reported in her legs.
The patient and rescue swimmer were extricated by helicopter via Billy Pugh net to awaiting HFD Emergency Medical Service units and transported to Kona Community Hospital via HFD.
