UPDATE: Flood Advisory Extended for Portions of Big Island

UPDATE: ORIGINAL POST: July 14, 2018, 6:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flood Advisory for Hawai‘i County until 10 p.m.

At 6:43 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain near Pāhoa. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour. Ponding of water has been reported in the area from heavy rainfall.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Hawaiian Acres, Pāhoa, Orchidlands Estates, Hawaiian Paradise Park and Mountain View.

Unofficial reports say the Pāhoa shelter is experiencing flooding issues.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.

At 4:06 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain near Pāhoa. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Hawaiian Acres, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidland Estates, Hawaiian Paradise Park and Mountain View.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 7 p.m. if heavy rain persists.
