Hawai‘i Receives First Medals in 2018 Special Olympics USA Games

On day two of the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games, Team Hawai‘i received two of its first medals of the games, bringing home gold in both the 100 meter womens track and field and the 200 meter mens track and field competitions.
Special Olympics Hawai‘i’s Hui ‘O Hawai‘i results included:
Basketball (Hawai‘i Island athletes)
Loss vs Indiana (25-30)
Loss vs Arkansas (28-35)
Track & Field (Kaua‘i athletes)
Katelin Heller: 100 meter – 18.30 seconds (Gold Medal)
Kobe Iglesia: 200 meter – 31.68 seconds (Gold Medal)
Archie Lanning: Shot Put – 6.05 (6th place)
Soccer (O‘ahu athletes)
Win vs South Caroline (4-3)
Loss vs Maine (1-7)
The cost to send one individual to the USA Games is more than $1,900. SpecialOlympics Hawai‘i is accepting tax-deductible donations to defray expenses at www.sohawaii.org and has also launched a campaign asking supporters to donate their HawaiianMiles to Special Olympics Hawai‘i to help reduce the cost of transportation.
