Alaska Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing at HNL

Alaska Airlines Flight 145 with 157 people aboard was heading from Seattle to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport Friday night, April 27, 2018, when an oil filter bypass light alerted pilots of a problem with one of the two engines, according to a report by Hawaii News Now.

About 45 minutes from arrival, the airline said the pilots throttled down one engine of the plane and declared an emergency as they approached the islands.

News reports indicated that the other engine and all other systems were operating normally; the aircraft is capable of functioning with only one engine.

Aircraft rescue and firefighting personnel were dispatched to the runway as a precaution.

Although the flight was initially going to be re-routed to Kahului but was able to land safely at its scheduled destination in Honolulu.

No injuries were reported.

Airlines personnel will inspect the plane today to determine the exact nature of the problem.
