Jury Selection Completed for 2016 Waipi‘o Valley Murder Case

Jury selection for the 2016 Thaine Price murder case was completed on Monday, April 30, 2018, the Third Circuit Court in Hilo.
Nine woman and three men were selected, along with one man and one woman who may serve as alternates.
Approximately 50 people were in attendance at the proceeding.
Opening statements will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Court will convene on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 1 and 2, 2018, and reconvene the following Monday (if there are no changes in the next two days).
On March 3, 2016, police responded to a report of a body that was found partially submerged in a stream near the back of Waipiʻo Valley.
The victim was later identified as 49-year-old Price, a resident of Waipiʻo Valley. An autopsy determined he died from a gunshot wound to his torso.
On Aug. 14, 2017, 67-year-old Wayne Teves, also a Waipiʻo Valley resident, was arrested in his home following his indictment by a grand jury for the murder.
He was charged with second-degree murder and carrying or using a firearm in the commission of a separate felony.
He was held at the Hilo cellblock on $500,000 bail pending his initial appearance in Circuit Court on Aug. 15, 2016.
