Emergency Proclamation in Wake of East Honolulu Flooding

After heavy flooding has caused much damage throughout the State of Hawai‘i, Gov. David Ige signed a supplementary emergency proclamation declaring the City and County of Honolulu a disaster area after flooding caused heavy damage in East Honolulu – from Niu Valley to Waimānalo.

The supplementary proclamation expands the original emergency proclamation for Kaua‘i issued by Gov. Ige on April 15.

“This proclamation supports Mayor Caldwell’s emergency declaration issued yesterday, April 18. We will continue to support Kaua‘i, Honolulu counties and residents during the recovery and rebuilding phases,” said Gov. Ige. “We are also working with FEMA and the counties to ensure the process is as quick and efficient as possible. Although recovery will take time, the state will be there every step of the way.”

The proclamation authorizes the expenditure of state monies as appropriated for the quick and efficient relief of damage caused by the floods.
