Volunteers Needed at Lili‘uokalani Gardens’ Waihonu Pond Cleanup

Volunteers are need to help clean Waihonu Pond, in the heart of Lili‘uokalani Gardens, on Saturday, March 17, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens’ ongoing efforts to remove decades of accumulated muck, bagasse, fallen leaves, sticks and rubber slippers have totaled 2,875 gallons of sludge, pickup truck loads of invasive seaweed and bags of debris through January 2018.

Wear gardening clothes and closed-toed shoes.

Some protective gear is available for those going into the pond.

There also are land-based chores for helpers who do not wish to go into the pond.

Rakes, shovels and tabi are available, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own tools and gloves.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided to all volunteers.
