High Wind Advisory in Effect for Big Island
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018.
Wind east to southeast at 15 to 30 mph with localized gusts to 50 mph are expected.
Winds will affect typical areas such as the Ka‘ū District and in the saddle area, but due to the unusual wind direction, portions of windward Big Island will experience gusty winds as well.
Winds this strong can bring down small tree branches, cause roof damage and produce power outages.
Motorists should use extra caution.
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph, or gusts of at least 50 mph, are expected.
