Flash Flood Watch Issued for Big Island
A Flash Flood Watch was issued for the Big Island at 3:56 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, in effect from tonight through Friday afternoon.
Abundant moisture is expected to lift northward and remain over the Big Island tonight through Friday, combining with an upper disturbance west of the area.
This moisture combined with cold temperatures aloft and instability will lead to periods of heavy showers and thunderstorms, especially over the southeast Big Island slopes of the Ka‘ū and Puna Districts.
Due to increasing instability, heavy showers and thunderstorms could develop rapidly and lead to flash flooding in a short period of time.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding—a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
