Civil Defense Message: High Surf Warning
Update Feb. 3: Surf is forecast to build through today then gradually subside after Sunday. The highest threat will coincide with the high tides, which occur at 6:30 this evening, and again at 6:30 tomorrow morning. The wharf side of Mahukona Beach Park is closed.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning for the shores of North and South Kohala, as well as South Kona starting Saturday Morning, Feb. 3, and lasting through Sunday, Feb. 5, 2018.
A High Surf Warning means there is a dangerous threat to life and property from the surf.
Surf is forecast to build through Saturday then gradually subside after Sunday. The highest threat will coincide with the high tides, which occur at 5:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Saturday, and again at 6 a.m. Sunday.
Due to the High Surf Warning, the following are in effect:
- Oceanfront residents and beachgoers along the affected shores are advised to be on the alert for high and dangerous surf.
- Boat owners and oceanfront residents should take action to secure their property before nightfall.
- Closures of roads and beaches may occur without notice.
