High Surf & Wind Advisories in Effect for Big Island

On Friday morning, Dec. 15, 2017, at 10:30, the National Weather Service issued a High Surf Advisory for the east-facing shores of Kohala, Hāmākua, Hilo and Puna through tomorrow.

A High Surf Advisory means there is a threat to life and property from the surf.

The highest threat will coincide with the high tides, which occur at 1 p.m. today and 2:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Due to the High Surf Advisory, the following are in effect:

Oceanfront residents and beachgoers along the affected shores are advised to be on the alert for high and dangerous surf.

Boat owners and oceanfront residents should take action to secure their property before nightfall.

Closures of roads and beaches may occur without notice.

The National Weather Service has also issued a High Wind Advisory for the summit areas of Hawai‘i Island through today.

A High Wind Advisory for the summit areas means objects that are outdoors should be secured and caution should be taken if driving near the summit regions.
