No Tsunami Threat From 6.6M New Guinea Quake

The National Weather Service Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach on O‘ahu has reported that a 6.6 magnitude earthquake has occurred in Papaua, New Guinea, at 11:27 a.m HST on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017.

PRELIMINARY PARAMETERS

COORDINATES: 4.3 SOUTH 143.5 EAST

LOCATION: NEW GUINEA PAPUA NEW GUINEA

MAGNITUDE: 6.6 MOMENT

Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawai‘i.
