Looking Ahead
Breezy trade winds will be strongest along and behind a weakening front that is forecast to move down the island chain from Kauai to Maui County today. Showers will be focused along windward slopes as the feature moves through, though scattered showers will be blown across to leeward areas on the gusty trades. The remnants of the dissipated front will stall near Maui and the Big Island tonight before falling apart on Saturday. A surface low far northeast of the islands will cut off the trades this weekend, leading to a prevailing land and sea breeze pattern. Weak trade winds will likely return next week, though a low level trough may linger over the islands.
Today
We expect east winds from 10 to 20 mph. Mostly sunny skies with afternoon isolated showers for the Kona side. Areas of leeward haze are expected. Temperatures up to 83° to 88°.
UV index at 10 (“very high” exposure level)
Tonight
Winds are expected to become light and variable tonight. For the Kona side, some isolated showers are possible to start, then clearing skies as the night goes on. Showers likely for windward spots with mostly cloudy skies. Low temperatures from 71° to 76°.
