South Hilo Crime Report: July 7–13, 2017

Hawai‘i Police Department’s South Hilo Community Police responded to one burglary, eight vehicle thefts and three vehicle break-ins in South Hilo over a  seven-day period from July 7 to 13, 2017.

Of the eight vehicles reported stolen, four have been recovered at the time of this report.

The complete list of locations affected and date in which the incidents occurred are as follows:

1 BURGLARY

1. July 9–10: Unknown suspect(s) entered a business warehouse near the 600 block on Kalanianaole Street by prying the rear warehouse door open and removed numerous Bosch brand tools and two motor bikes without permission.

8 VEHICLE THEFTS

1. July 7: Between 8 a.m. and noon, unknown suspect(s) had removed a red 2014 Jonway moped from a residence near the 500 block on Laukapu Street. Moped not located.
2. July 7: between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m., unknown suspect(s) stole a gray 2002 Toyota Tacoma plates (ZDX755) from a parking lot near the 100 block on Banyan Drive. Truck not located.
3. July 8: Between 10:45 and 11 a.m., an 81-year-old man reported that while locking the gate to his residence located on Kame‘e Road, his white 2012 Subaru Forester bearing plate LDD127 was running with the driver’s side door open. An unknown male in his teens, in a dark T-shirt and shorts and short brown hair, jumped into his vehicle and drove down Kamae‘e Road. About 40 feet past the driveway, the vehicle stopped and an unknown female got into the back right passenger door before driving down the road. The victim said there was another male who got into the front passenger seat as he was attempting to stop the vehicle from leaving. Christian Olivera, 19, was arrested and charged for the offense of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle on July 12.
4. July 8: Between 2 and 8 a.m., unknown person(s) had removed a silver 1997 Honda Civic bearing plates ZGC057, that was parked at an apartment complex near the 100 block on W. Lanikaula St. Vehicle located on July 9.
5. July 9–10: Unknown suspect(s) entered a business office near the 600
   block on Kalanianaole St. without permission and removed the keys to a green 2000
   Ford Excursion bearing license plates HZM769. The unknown suspects removed the
   vehicle from the premises without permission. Vehicle located on July 15.
6. July 10: Between 3 and 5 p.m. a black 1996 Toyota Tacoma extra cab pickup truck MHT910 was removed without permission from King’s Landing in Keaukaha on
   July 10 between 3 and 5:30 p.m. Truck not located.
7. July 11: Between 5 and 6 a.m., unknown suspects removed a 2005 four-door Nissan Titan, plates NYV453 from a residence on the Old Māmalahoa Highway. Truck not located.
8. July 12–13: Unknown person(s) removed a gold double-cab 2002 Toyota Tacoma 4×4 bearing license plate #HBU674 from a carport located near the 500 block on Kahaopea Street. Truck located on July 17.

3 VEHICLE BREAK-INS

1. July 8: Between 2  and 2:20 p.m., unknown suspect(s) entered his a Toyota 4-Runner while it was parked unattended on Saddle Road at the 25-mile marker. The suspect (s) entered through the unlocked rear tailgate and removed a savage brand 22 mag bolt action rifle and case.
2. July 10: Between 8 and 8:30 p.m., unknown suspect(s) removed a wallet with contents from within a locked 1997 Ford sedan, possibly by pushing down the driver side window while it was parked near the 600 block on Kīlauea Ave.
3. July 11: Between 5 and 6 p.m., unknown suspects entered a 2003 Mazda sedan, while it was parked fronting the Four Mile Beach Park through a side window. Removed was a wallet with contents.

Two Arrested on Multiple Auto Theft Charges Four days after the Hawaiʻi Police Department developed a task force to address the alarming number of auto thefts, two individuals were arrested.
