Kealakekua Library Open 10 More Hours Plus Thursdays

Kealakekua Public Library has added 10 more hours to its public service schedule and will now be open on Thursdays.

“We are thrilled to be open more hours, and no longer have patrons and students waiting outside to get in,” said Branch Manager Shelly Brown. “We will continue to monitor the needs of our community and provide the best service possible.”

Beginning in 2000, the library’s open hours were reduced twice due to budget cuts. In 2009, the library was threatened with complete closure. The community successfully rallied at that time to keep the library open.

Since 2011, the community, and Hawai‘i State Public Library System administration and staff worked together to restore the hours.

In February 2017, staff tracked library usage and conducted a one month patron survey. Nearly 200 patrons took the survey with the majority choosing the new Monday through Friday public service schedule.

Kealakekua Public Library Hours

• Monday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Tuesday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Wednesday: Noon to 7 p.m.
• Thursday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Friday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Saturday, Sunday: Closed
