Volcano Overflight: Lava Delta Expands to Three Acres
“A lava lake in rare form, gorgeous pahoehoe flows above the Pali, and lots of visible lava on the over three-acre ocean entry lava delta!” said Tropical Visions Video photographer and videographer Mick Kalber, about Paradise Helicopters’ Thursday, June 22, 2017, Kilauea overflight.
“Paradise Pilot Sean Regehr guided us effortlessly over the flow field, as always,” reported Kalber. “The 61g surface flows are remarkably active both on the surface and throughout the tube system. Pele’s molten lava continues to pour into the ocean at Kamokuna.”
The USGS Hawaiian Volcanoes observatory reports that the lava delta is over three acres in size, extending 100 meters from the sea cliff.
