After Senate Republicans released their healthcare legislation which was drafted behind closed doors, U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) spoke out on the Senate floor in opposition to the bill.

“There are just two things that Americans need to know about the Republican healthcare plan… it’s going to make health insurance more expensive… and it’s going to make it harder to get health care in the first place,” said Sen. Schatz. “That is the bottom line of this bill. Higher costs for less care—and all for a tax cut for the rich.”

He continued, ” We are getting rid of tax increases to cut Medicaid. That’s what this bill does, but that is not what Americans had in mind when they… asked Congress to fix healthcare.”
