Red Cross Responds to Kona Residential Fire

UPDATE: April 7, 2017, 11 a.m.

Fire personnel arrived at the scene of a two-story residential blaze above Holualoa Elementary School at 9:06 a.m. on  Friday, April 7, 2017, to find a neighbor using a garden hose trying to stop the spread of the fire. 

The bottom-floor living room area was engulfed in flames on the southeast  corner of the house. All contents of that room were severely burnt.

The blaze was extinguished within nine minutes of the arrival of the Hawai‘i Fire Department.

Inspectors arrived on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Approximately eight people who were living downstairs were displaced due to the fire.

HFB notified the Red Cross.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross responding to a residential fire reported in Kona.

Red Cross disaster volunteers are heading to the scene to meet with affected residents and ensure their immediate emergency needs for food, shelter and clothing are met.

Caseworkers will continue to follow up with anyone affected in the coming weeks to provide referrals, guidance or additional assistance as needed to help with the recovery process.
