LETTER: Remove Offensive Sign From Post Office
Today I saw a most disturbing and hateful message drawn with a black Sharpie pen, on the back side of the U.S. Postal Services poster inside the post office in Ocean View.
I realize it is a contract station, but for all practical purposes, it represents the U.S. government and other post offices elsewhere.
I have tried to call the local office, getting a fax tone each time.
The sign read:
Tea Party
White Power
Trump Rules
This is not the first time I’ve seen a message like this on the back of a poster in this office. It has been there before and now is back.
It means there is a racist hateful person in our community, but I want it known this message does not represent our community.
It offends me greatly and I want it taken down and replaced with a clean poster.
I went early this morning, before the post office opened, saw this, then, unfortunately, came back when they were closed for lunch. It was still up, clear as day for anyone going to get their mail or ship something in line. It can’t be missed.
There is no excuse for the clerks not to have removed it this morning when they saw it.
Hateful messages like this have no place in public regardless of political affiliation. I felt violated reading it in my safe public space. Sad indeed.
I will call out discrimination ANY time I see it. This is not acceptable!
