Kema Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter, Hindering Prosecution

Peter Kema Sr. plead guilty to manslaughter and hindering pros cution in court today, April 5, 2017, in connection to the death of his son “Peter Boy” Kema Jr.
“Peter Boy” disappeared 20 years ago, in January 1998, when he was six years old.
The Hawai‘i County Prosecutor’s Office released a new complaint against Kema Sr., accusing him of manslaughter and hindering prosecution.
A previous complaint charged him with murder.
Kema Sr. voluntarily waved his right to indictment and plead guilty on each count.
He now faces sentencing for manslaughter, which carries a sentence of 20 years and/or a fine of $15,000, and hindering prosecution, which carries a sentence of five years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000.
His sentences are concurrent, not consecutive, so he could serve up to 20 years for the death of his son and hindering prosecution.
He must serve a minimum of six years and eight months before he is eligible for parole.
The state agreed to concurrent sentences if his son’s body is successfully recovered.
If the remains are not recovered, Kema will then have to pass a polygraph test to retain the plea agreement.
Kema will return for sentencing June 9, 2017.
