Na‘alehu Brush Fire Scorches 200 Acres

Big Island firefighters arrived on the scene of a brush fire in Na‘alehu between the 62 and 63 mile markers of Highway 11 on Monday, Feb. 7.

Upon arrival at, 11:18 a.m., firefighters found approximately 200 acres of pasture land with a mixture of tall grass, brush and trees in flames.

The fire was fanned by winds from the south blowing between 10 and 13 mph and gusting to 15 mph.

The fire was extinguished with helicopter bucket drops and by ground crews via four-wheel drive access roads. Operations to continue throughout the day with
