The public is invited to attend the dedication of Hilo’s first ever U.S. Postal Service stamp featuring Hilo’s iconic Lili‘uokalani Gardens on Jan. 23.
The dedication will be held at Shoroan Tea House at Lili‘uokalani Gardens on Monday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m., and the new stamp can be purchased from 11:30 to 1 p.m. They will be offered with hand cancellation free of charge. The new Priority Mail stamp will also be available for purchase at Post Offices nationwide on the same day.
The Lili‘uokalani stamp is part of the Postal Service’s American Landmarks series and features the garden’s picturesque wooden red shelter and stone bridge straddling a pond. It was designed by Art director Greg Breeding, with original art by Dan Cosgrove based on a photo by Kea‘au resident Bill Eger.
