Alzheimer’s Association January Events in Kona and Hilo

The Alzheimer’s Association will have four events on Friday, Jan. 6 and Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Regency at Hualalai in Kailua-Kona.

On Jan. 6, at 6 p.m., Chris Ridley will present “What Is Dementia?”

The seminar will include the latest information on the warning signs of dementia and provide information on dementia, stages, symptoms and treatments will also be provided.

On Saturday, Jan. 7, at 9 a.m., Ridley will present “Legal Affairs and Dementia.”

The presentation will discuss dementia and potential legal needs, legal capacity, advance health care directives, financial planning and organizing legal financial affairs.

At 11 a.m., Ridley will show the movie “Memories of Tomorrow”.

This 2007 movie stars Ken Watanabe who does an outstanding performance about the early onset of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Alzheimer’s Association assures that the movie is a must for those who know someone with forgetfulness.

Discussion and education will be provided after by the Alzheimer’s Association.

At 1 p.m., Ridley will then present “Communication and Behaviors in Dementia,” which will include information on why behaviors occur and possible interventions.

All events are free but will have limited seating.

Alzheimer’s Association Hilo Series for January at Tutu’s House

The Alzheimer’s Association will present two lectures on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Tutu’s House in Waimea.

The first topic will be “What Is Dementia,” a workshop which reviews dementia, the symptoms, warning signs, misconceptions and potential treatments.

The 9 a.m. presentation includes short videos of persons with the disease, family members of persons with dementia and various professionals.

At 11 a.m. Ridley will show the movie “Memories of Tomorrow”. This 2007 movie stars Ken Watanabe who does an outstanding performance about the early onset of Alzheimer’s disease.

At 1 p.m., the Alzheimer’s Association the topic will be “Communication and Behaviors in Dementia”.

The workshop covers information on possible causes and types of behaviors that may arise during the course of dementia as well as potential interventions.

Hilo Program Coordinator, Chris Ridley, will be providing the workshops and movie.

There will be limited seating.
