7.8 New Zealand Earthquake: No Tsunami Threat to Hawaiʻi
The USGS reports that the earthquake occurred in the South Island of New Zealand with a preliminary magnitude of 7.8 and a depth of 23 km at 1:02 a.m. HST (11:02 UTC) on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016.
According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi.
