HCFCU to Sponsor ‘Active Shooter’ Seminar

Hawai‘i Community Federal Credit Union (HCFCU) will present a seminar to help educate Hawai‘i Island residents and visitors on how to protect themselves if they’re ever in a life-threatening situation involving violence.

“Active Shooter: Protecting Yourself & Things to Know” will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at HCFCU’s Kaloko facility in Kailua Kona) in the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

An increasing number of communities across the nation losing family, friends and neighbors to random violence.

“It’s important for the sake of our families and friends that we take a proactive role in keeping our communities safe,” said Tricia Buskirk, HCFCU president and CEO. “These seminars provide key information on what to do and how to safeguard ourselves and our loved ones.”

Conducted by Lt. Thomas Shopay, commander, and Sgt. Greg Yamada, both of the Special Response Team of the Hawai‘i Police Department, the seminar will provide awareness to help individuals increase their survivability should they encounter an active shooter or other active-violence situation.
