High Surf Warning Issued for North Exposures

A Small Craft Advisory is posted for all Hawaii County waters through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
A High Surf Warning is posted for north shores of the Big Island from 6 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
A Marine Weather Statement has been issued stating that a large north-northwest swell will rapidly build Monday with open ocean swells reaching 15 feet. Harbors exposed to northwest and north swells may see moderate harbor surges and large breaking waves at harbor entrances.

Big Island Surf Forecast
Hilo side: Wave heights are forecast from head high to overhead + today for the best breaks. Building to 20 to 30 foot faces for northern exposures.
Kona side: Wave heights are expected to fill in to about knee/waist high today, some spots could get sneaky sets as swell builds.
South: Wave heights are expected to be knee/waist high today from the northwest wrap with bigger sets mainly late in the day. Trade swell spots will continue to see blustery head high to overhead + waves.
Our current north-northwest swell is fading Monday. New north-northwest swell will fill in for Tuesday. We have a couple more swells on track for the islands as well. Overlapping swells Friday and into Saturday are forecast.
Nothing significant is expected out of the SPAC with minimal leftovers expected this week.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
