Record Turnout for Parker Fun Fun & Color Stampede
A crowd of more than 200 got splashed in color at Parker School’s 17th Annual George Heneghan Fun Run and Color Stampede on Oct. 30, the largest turnout in history.
“We had a total of 207 runners in our 1K and 5K races, which makes this our biggest and best year yet,” said Nicole Vedelli, Parker School athletic director. Thirty kids
Thirty kids 11 and under competed in a one-kilometer race at the school’s lower campus, followed by a five-kilometer race with more than 170 participants ages 12 and older.
Runners and walkers were splashed in powdered color at four different color stations throughout the race.
Established in 1999, this event is in memory of Hawai‘i architect George Heneghan, an accomplished athlete, Parker teacher and coach of cross country and track from 1992 to 1998.
Parker School Athletics thanks everyone who participated and supported this event including: Five Mountain Fitness, Big Island Running Company, Ironman, Kawaihae Crossfit, Starbucks, and Mamane Bakery. All proceeds support Parker School’s athletics program.
