Big Island Fire Department Battles Two Blazes

The Hawai‘i County Fire Department battled two blazes yesterday, Wednesday, Oct. 19.

At 10:09 a.m., HCFD responded to a house fire on St. Paul’s Road in Honalo.

A one-room  residence, approximately 400 square feet in size, was fully involved. Fire ventilated through the roof at time of arrival.

The occupant of the coffee farm dwelling was not home at the time of the fire.

The fire was quickly brought under control.

The structure and its contents are a total loss, except for the foundation. Losses are estimated at $50,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The American Red Cross was called in to assist the occupant of the home.

At 3:38 p.m., HCFD responded to a structure fire at 15-3410 Shell Road in Pāhoa. 

Upon arrival, firemen found a one-story structure fully involved in fire.

The fire was extinguished at 4:30 p.m.

Losses were estimated at104,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
