New NW Swell Builds Today for Big Island

Big Island Surf Forecast
Hilo side: Wave heights are forecast from head high or more at the best exposures today.
Kona side: Wave heights are expected to be knee/waist high from wrap out of the northwest. Otherwise, it should be pretty flat.
South: Wave heights are expected to be knee/waist high or more from wrap out of the northwest depending on the exposure. Otherwise, it should be pretty flat out of the south.
Overlapping northwest swells will keep the surf up along north and west facing shores through the remainder of the week and into the weekend due to a very active pattern across the northwest Pacific. The Big Island will be largely blocked and therefore will not be under a High Surf Advisory however, a new swell will build Thursday into early Friday morning with knee/waist high sets for the Kona side and head high or more on the Hilo side. The surf should trend down Friday through the upcoming weekend along north and west facing shores.
A small to moderate south swell associated with a recent batch of gales over the Tasman Sea is expected to fill in Thursday and hold through Friday night before easing. The peak of this event will be through the day Thursday at levels that should remain below advisory criteria.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
