North Hawai‘i Hospital Gets New President, VP

The Queen’s Health Systems has selected a new president and an interim vice president/chief nursing officer.

The Queen’s Health Systems has selected Cindy Kamikawa, MS, RN, NE, to serve as the new president of North Hawai‘i Community Hospital (NHCH).

Kamikawa will assume all day-to-day management responsibilities of the hospital on
Aug. 1, 2016.

“Cindy has become very familiar with North Hawai‘i Community Hospital and is very
committed to its role in that community,” said Art Ushijima, president and CEO of The
Queen’s Health Systems. “With Cindy’s 30-plus years of experience at Queen’s,
beginning as a staff nurse to her current role as QHS Vice President/Chief Nursing
Officer, she will bring substantial support for the many needs at NHCH and she is
enthusiastically looking forward to this new role.”

In January 2014, North Hawai‘i Community Hospital became affiliated with The Queen’s
Health Systems.

Ken Graham, who has served as NHCH’s president under a management service agreement, will have completed his assignment by Sept. 30 to facilitate the transition of the hospital with QHS.

From Aug. 1 until his departure at the end of September, he will serve as QHS System Integration advisor at NHCH.

Also, effective on Aug. 1, 2016, Mimi Harris, RN, MS, NEA-BC, will serve as interim QHS vice president/chief nursing officer.

Harris has also over 30 years of experience at Queen’s, beginning as a staff RN and progressing to her current role as director of Patient Care Consulting Services at Punchbowl.

“As Queen’s grows as a system, we are building our management and leadership capacity along with the processes to facilitate essential changes,” said Ushijima. “The new and expanded responsibilities being assumed by Cindy and Mimi reflect the internal capacity we are developing to build a system. We look forward to their leadership in their new roles as they support the mission of our founders, Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV, and we extend our mahalo to Ken Graham for his assistance at a critical time.”
