County Awards Grant to Donkey Mill Art Center

Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa has received a $5,000 grant from the County of Hawai’i through a bill introduced by Councilman Dru Kanuha.

The County Contingency Grant funding supports DMAC’s Pua Nā Pua Microenterprise Development Project, a collaboration with Abled Hawaii Artists and Full Life Hawaii, a social service provider for those with developmental disabilities.

This grant will support DMAC’s launch of an arts education program that cultivates creativity, skills development and microenterprise opportunities. Full Life will provide individual companion care and transportation to and from the mill for its clients to explore their earnings’ potential through the arts.

Funds will also support the Pua Nā Pua Art Festival on Aug. 13 at Keauhou Shopping Center. This festival will be the first of its kind in West Hawai‘i, inclusively showcasing the contributions of both developmentally disabled and non-developmentally disabled artists.

It is modeled on the highly successful Abled Hawaii Artists’ event in Hilo at the Prince Kuhio Shopping Center, celebrating its ninth consecutive year, and will feature arts, crafts, artisanal goods, live music, demos and a silent auction.

The Holualoa Foundation for Arts & Culture provides art education and experiences to people of all ages and abilities at its historic home at DMAC.

DMAC is located at 78-6670 Mamalahoa Highway.
